Phlox divaricata 'Montrose Tricolor' – Montrose Tricolor Canadian Phlox
From Nancy Goodwin of Montrose Nursery, this new woodland phlox has fragrant smoky lavender-blue flowers and unusual variegated foliage of pink, white and green. Because of its diminutive size it is suitable for the high shade rock garden where it will naturalize without impinging on its near neighbors. It will combine well with Omphalodes ‘Joy Skies’.

Phlox paniculata 'Lizzy' (PPAF) – Lizzy Garden Phlox
An improved garden phlox with disease resistant foliage and bright pink flowers with a creamy white eye in July and August. Growing just 20” tall, it will not require staking. In our trial gardens the plant bloomed and rebloomed all summer with occasional large new panicles of flowers appearing as late as October. Garden tip: Always remove all dead Phlox foliage over winter. Lime your soil in early spring and mulch with pea stone or limestone chips

Physostegia virginiana 'Miss Manners' (PPAF) – Miss Manners Obedient Plant
It is a curious thing that such a rampantly spreading plant should be given the name Obedient Plant. Obedient it is not! ‘Miss Manners’ Physostegia fortunately has gone to finishing school and is thus a clump forming cultivar and does not need the constant disciplinary action required of the native Physostegia. With white spiked flowers this 2’ tall, well-behaved cultivar will surely be the plant of choice for late summer bloom.

Cold Hardiness: Zone 3-8
Spacing: 12"
Growth Rate: Moderate
Water Needs: Moist well-drained soil

Scabiosa 'Samantha's Pink' (PPAF) – Samantha's Pink Pincushion Flower
‘Samantha’s Pink’ bears two inch diameter, pure pink flowers for no less than nine months of the year in temperate climates. In climates where extremely hard frosts are not common (zones 8-10) it will bloom all year but might benefit from a “haircut” once in a while. It can be shaved back to three inches with no ill effect. Discovered in New Zealand by Jackie Coleman of Super Perennials LTD, ‘Samantha’s Pink’ forms a tidy 6” mound which sends up a constant array of 15-20” stems, each bearing one disc-like, double flower. Great for vases!

Sidalcea 'Little Princess' (PPAF) – Little Princess Miniature Hollyhocks
Primarily of Northwestern American origin, this mallow relative is much admired for its delicate, feminine quality, quite the opposite of its other relative, the giant Hibiscus. It bears soft, frilly pink flowers in July and August on a compact plant growing just 15” tall. Remember that western states tend to be drier, sunnier and more alkaline than we are. ‘Little Princess’ is a great candidate for a sunny spot in sandy loam. Please lime it once a year or more.
